Life should be easy like a sitcom

Kar wants to go on an overnight fieldtrip with her friends. The group includes her boyfriend.

It is difficult to say, "NO!" for several reasons.

1. That would make Rick and I hypocrites. We did it at her age. Sure, I was pregnant at her age, but it didn't happen on an overnighter!
2. Her brother has done it. Rick didn't have a say in it, but Rick also didn't try to stop it.
3. We are preaching trust. In a month, she will be off at college. Living away from home for weeks at a time.

Of course, I get the advice. Most, but not all, people without kids see NOTHING wrong with double-standards or being a hypocrite. They don't see this as a trust issue. To them, it's a Cosby Show episode where the kids are so thankful for such a wise decision!

But that was SCRIPTED. The kids were PAID to be happy and obedient. Bill Cosby, on the other hand, has faced sexual assault allegations from various women and an extortion attempt by a woman believed to be his child from an affair.

Reality isn't as fun as a sitcom laughtrack!
